“Men Lie. Women Lie…. BRANDS ALSO LIE”
Borrowing form this popular phrase and having worked with brands of varying stature in Nigeria and abroad, I have hardly come short of seeing brands having to lie to win mind-share amongst consumers. In NIgeria for instance, the craze for ‘firsts’ has seen many a brand with plenty of marketing funds go to the public claiming to be the first to innovate a certain product or service – even when they are not first, but knowing fully well that the media is too lazy to research into these claims and the advertising regulation body, APCON, seems clueless as to its duties.
